Intelligent navigation for everyday spaces
This exciting new powerchair features EZ-Pass Turning Assist, an intelligent, adaptive system that helps you manoeuvre through narrow doorways, tight hallways and busy indoor environments. Powered by dual LiDAR sensors, the system builds a real-time picture of the chair's surroundings, with the aim of reducing bumps and collisions for smooth travel as you navigate any path.
LiDAR is a contraction of "Light Detection and Ranging". The technology works by sending out rapid pulses of laser light and measuring how long they take to bounce back after hitting nearby objects. By timing thousands of these pulses every second, the system creates a 3D map of everything around it; walls, doorframes, furniture, people, and so on.
The same core technology is used in self-driving cars and robot vacuum cleaners, it's just applied here to help the powerchair "see" its surroundings. In the Jazzy Assist, the dual LiDAR sensors feed that 3D map into the EZ-Pass Turning Assist system, which is what allows it to help guide the chair smoothly through narrow doorways and tight spaces while reducing bumps and scrapes.
