The Requirements

Customer in Seaford required powered wheelchair access into their home from their front drive, they also wanted to access their rear garden. We discussed possible routes, these options included through the front, side, rear patio doors and garage doors, there was no external route from the front to the rear garden access was only possible through the house or garage.

Considerations included door thresholds to varying heights, inadequate turning space at the start of the longest suitcase ramp based on the safe wheelchair gradient calculation for any of the external house doors, and access route through garage to garden doorframe being too narrow for stock ramp solutions.

Furthermore the customer’s rear garden is in ‘award winning show condition’ and aesthetically could not be altered by permanent or semi-permanent ramping. In any case the rear patio doors were not suited to portable ramping due too insufficient space to accommodate the ramp and turning area.

The Solution

Through the front porch with inner and outer doors to access the house and through the garage to the rear garden.

  1. Internal rubber 25mm height ramp for the internal door threshold in the front porch.
  2. Further rubber 50mm height ramp for porch side of the internal threshold door
  3. Stock aluminium threshold ramp to 700mm length (reduced width to 610mm) for front door porch threshold
  4. Stock suitcase aluminium ramp to 1500mm length (reduced width to 610mm) for front door to front path

The concrete path area to the front of the property was extended to accommodate a 1200mm by 1200mm turning area at the start of the suitcase ramp, two aluminium porch ramps used in combination with the 50mm rubber porch ramp to provide access out of the rear door garage into the garden

Summary

Solution: Range of rubber and aluminium portable ramps to along with extension of exiting concrete pathway.

Lead Time: 8 Weeks from initial contact to installation.
